How to Consult a Health Professional

Barrow Health Centre operates a telephone triage system for all appointments. The clinician will treat you accordingly and book a face to face appointment for further assesment if required.

Extended Access Appointments

We offer extended access appoinments between 7:00am and 8:00am on a Wednesday & Thursday morning and 6:30pm and 8pm on a Wednesday evening for minor illness and chronic disease management, please discuss the availability of these appointments with our reception team, should you think that these appointments may be suitable for your health needs. These appointments are all pre-bookable.

 

Chaperone Service

We provide a chaperone service for anyone who requests this, please speak to the receptionist at the time of booking your appointment or ask the doctor or nurse during your consultation.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and this can be arranged for you.

Home Visits

If you need a home visit, please ring 01509 274430 Option 2

It would be helpful if you could call before 10:00am, except in an emergency. A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.

Cancellations & Reminders

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list.

There is an option to leave a message on the practice phone system to cancel your appointment, without having to hold on the line and speak to someone, or to enable you to cancel your appointment even when the surgery is closed.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
